queen’s dock cultural pier – ongoing

Located on one of the last remaining publicly accessible shorelines along the Detroit River, the Queen’s Dock Parkette has long served as a historical landmark. Since 2018, the Port Authority has championed community engagement to revitalize and maintain this important site. Driven by a commitment to preserving public access and fostering connection to the waterfront, the Port Authority collaborated with local stakeholders and the design team to create a new public pier extending 40 feet over the river.

Developed in consultation with the local Indigenous community, the design features two tubular, cantilevered frames connected by a pedestrian bridge, forming a continuous circulation between land and water. The project reflects a shared vision to celebrate cultural heritage and enhance the natural experience of the riverfront.

Construction of the pier is currently underway and slated for completion in November 2025, with continued master planning for the parkette scheduled for spring of 2026.
